About the Author

Jamal Joseph is a writer, director, producer, poet, activist, and educator. While incarcerated for his active participation in the Black Panther Party, Joseph earned two college degrees, and wrote five plays and two volumes of poetry. The book itself is incredible. I absolutely adored the stories in it, the poems & i loved the inserts & enclosures. They made the book so special, the one flaw was that my purchase was a used item cause they don't produce this book anymore. It was missing one insert, i shouldn't be complaining about that but still. it would've been great to have all of the inserts. Just missing one. But all in all, this book is nothing less than incredible. The enclosures make it feel like you're holding original copies of Pac's work. Amazing. Rest In Peace to The Greatest Of All Time. I've been teaching myself French for quite awhile now using a free online site. I thought I could better my "exposure" and understanding of the language if I read a book I'm quite familiar with that has been translated into French. I haven't had the book long and I've already reached the point when Harry gets his Nimbus 2000 from McGonagall. I do think it a bit funny what some of the names have been translated to, and wonder why some changed but others didn't. Google Translate works well if I can't figure out what character is being referenced or is speaking, as well as figuring out certain sentences. I'm acutally understanding a lot more than I thought I would. It's been great so far. I hope to get the audio CD soon and follow along with the narrator. I don't know if the book is abridged or not, but it's still worth owning for the French practice.

I am always going to love Harry Potter. I got the first book in French to see if I was able to understand/remember any of it since I studied French in High School and College. I was able to understand about 25-30% without having to refer to the English version or a dictionary. I found it interesting that the names of some characters, the houses, and even the money was different though from the English version and the French Version. I absolutely loved the way that Jean François-Ménard was able to translate words like "Ravenclaw" (Serdaigle) and "Hogwarts" (Poudlard) and he managed to keep the original meaning of most, if not all, words.

Fantastic! I listen tomHarry Potter regularly in English as I go off to sleep... So I decided it was time to try to relearn my French. And what better way than with Harry Potter! I was concerned that there was only a single disc (compared to seven for the English version) but it's all there on a single MP3 and plays perfectly on my Bose Wave Radio/CD player. I recommend it to anyone who wants a French language version.

This was the second book I read during my French studies and I loved it. I watched all the movies and so that helps me know that I'm on track in the plot. Totally doable for an advanced beginner or lower intermediate learner. I recommend checking our Olly Richards book on French short stories for an explanation on how to read as a beginning language learner. Once you get the hang of it, it's such fun!
